days program Day 1: Johannesburg-Mpumalanga
Pick up at Johannesburg airport. After our meeting we start the journey
crossing Mpumalanga, the place of the rising sun, the region of the
waterfalls, forest and deep canyons, where the magnificent of the
Kruger National Park is the first tourist attraction of the area .
We will pass through the quite agricultural town of Lydenburg and
Nelspruit, gateway to the mountain of Lowveld. The descent from the
Long Tom Pass opens up vistas of rolling grasslands, cattle ranches
stretching out into the distance. Overnight in the panoramic Chestnut
Lodge situated in the beautiful district of Kiepersol, surrounded
by 50 hectares of indigenous bush. Enjoy a beautiful dinner at restaurant
in the Lodge.
Day 2/3/4: Mpumalanga through the Elements:
Water...
The day is fully dedicated to enjoy some of the most exciting and
safest activities in the Sabie River: geckoing!! The gecko is an egg
shaped tube with a bottom, very easy to steer and one of the coolest
way to have fun with friends and family. There are a multitude of
water based activities in alternative: you may want to experience
some tubing adventure in a very difficult access area, upper Sabie
River. The scenery is spectacular and the rush of the rapids is exhilarating.
You can also have a rafting adventure, or maybe launch yourself into
the space by experiencing the thrill of the largest aerial cable trail
in Africa. If playing with the adrenaline is not one of your priorities,
just enjoy the view of Sabie River taking a peaceful walk through
the nature. Overnight at the panoramic Chestnut Lodge.
..Air....
This morning there is an option to fly on a hot air balloon. We have
the opportunity to get a view of the Mpumalanga escarpment and the
Sabie River at the colours of the sunrise.
Scenic balloon flights is seen as a beautiful and romantic way
to look down on mother earth. Moving along at wind speed the hot air
balloon is part of the climate of the day and the ride is calm; the
view of things earthbound surprisingly detailed. After our wonderful
experience we enjoy a country breakfast and we move on to Kruger
Park for our game drives, seeking for the Big Five. We end our
Kruger experience around a campfire, tasting a barbecue at the
moon light.
..Earth and Fire.
Early rise for a beautiful game drive, when the rays of the sun are
calling all animals for another survival battle. After our wildlife
experience it is time to experience the Earth element, by hiking,
walking through indigenous bush and fruit orchards. After lunch we
celebrate our last element, the fire, in a very unique experience:2/3
hour of muddy adventure near Sabie Falls exploring holes, tunnels
and caves with only a candle in our hand!. At the sunset a local guide
will led us through the bush towards the Great Kraal of Chief Soshangana.
As they approach the beating of the drums grows louder and warriors
usher them through a passage of stone towers and huge flaming
torches, calling the power of Fire. In the festival, choirs, actors,
and dancers gather to tell the story of the Shangaan people in a spectacular
and moving experience. Dinner in a traditional feast shared inside
the huts. Overnight at Chestnut
Day 5/6: Swaziland
Today we cross the border and we enter the Kingdom of Swaziland. The
capital Mbabane is a puzzle of colourful markets, where we
can purchase some of the best quality carvings and crafts in Africa.
We experience two days of Swazi culture and the Mlilwane Nature Reserve,
a successful conservation project that has reintroduced many species
of wildlife extinct in this area decades ago. Enjoy a game exploring
the area on foot. Overnights in traditional beehive huts watching
local dance, sharing the landscape with zebra, giraffe, war dog and
wild beast!!.
Day 7: Durban
Today we explore the Grater St. Lucia Wetland Park on our journey
to Durban. The city homes the largest Indian population outside
of India in the world and a hugely swelled Zulu presence. Durban is
Africa's largest port and it boasts wide beaches, an extensive beachfront
and a steamy tropical climate. Dinner Indian style!
Day 8: Durban- KwaZulu-Natal-Lesotho
Today we leave Durban behind and we start our journey to KwaZulu-Natal,
to experience the life of the Basuto in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho
and the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains with their unique flora,
bird life and San Rock Art. Here, in this remote kingdom,
it is the people who will fascinate you. Blanketed horsemen ride
across the plain as men born to the saddle. Children laugh and greet
you. Hear strange music played by the ballisana, the shepherds, on
instruments like the m´Mamakhorong and the Lesiba. This is music
born of the loneliness of their hard lives. Feel the warmth of their
welcome. Experience just a moment in their lives in this “African
Tibet.” Overnight in a traditional village.
Day 9: Sani Pass and surrounding Mountains.
The Sani Pass, is the only road link between KwaZulu-Natal and
the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Today we start our 4x4
adventure into a different world, the land of the People of the Blanket.
Starting at 1540m above sea level we will follow the deep valley
incised by the Mkhomazana River to breast the summit at 2873m, with
almost 1000m climbed in the last 8km of our 4x4 trip.
Along the way our Tour Guides will tell us the history of the
Sani Pass, of the long-gone San people who lived and hunted here until
they, too, were hunted out. Overnight at Sani Top Chalet, the highest
pub in Africa. Weather permitting, a champagne breakfast on the sun
deck to watch the sun rise over the Roof of Africa.
Day 10: Addo Elephant Park-Private Farm Game
Today we drive to Addo Elephant Park for another wildlife experience. We
stop at the Cheetah breeding centre and we have our last game drive
in a private farm where we will spend our evening and overnight. This
is the right time for tasting one of the best original braai available
in the area, the delicious Afrikaans barbecue organized by the farmer.
A vegetarian meal will be served upon request.
Day 11/12: Garden Route: the Tsitsikamma National Park
After breakfast we head for the Tsitsikamma region. The National
Park is covered in large tracts of indigenous forest, commercial plantation
and Fybos. Deep river gorges cleft the plateau as they make their
way down to the sea, creating spectacular waterfalls and deep kloofs.
Free time to discover the magic of the Natural Valley and the Storm
river village. The area offers a large numbers of activities and beautiful
hiking paths. We will spend two nights enjoying the unique comfort
and quietness of the Tsitsikamma Lodge. The wood cabins are furnished
with Jacuzzi bath and everything you need for making your special
barbecue at the moonlight. The following day is dedicated to a special
eco experience at Tsitsikamma National Park. Enjoy the famous Striptease
River Trail and the forest trail close by our Lodge highly recommended
for all bird-lovers. Experience the highest Bungee Jumping in the
world, or if you are passionate for local food you cannot miss a visit
to Finboschock Cheese Farm; enjoy tasting delicious local cheese and
the warm hospitality of the farmers. Overnight at the Lodge.
Day 13: Plattemberg Bay-Knysna
We continue our stunning drive on the Garden Route, visiting Monkeyland
the world's first multi-species free-roaming primate sanctuary, renowned
throughout the world for its rehabilitation work. After an enjoyable
walk through the Bird of Even Sanctuary, we move to the Elephants
Sanctuary which offers guests an encounter with elephants as never
before. Fully escorted by high knowledgeable guides you will interact,
feed and walk trunk in hand with African Elephants. After a very emotional
morning we will stop for a tasty lunch in Plattemberg Bay right in
front of the Indian Ocean, watching its waves crashing into the white
beaches. Overnight in Knysna.
Day 14: Winelands-Cape Town
On the way to Cape Town we have the chance to enjoy one of the Gourmet
Wine tour by learning from the local farmers all the secrets about
the most famous South African wines. Then we head for the Cape of
Good Hope Natural Reserve, a dramatically wild area of towering cliffs,
stupendous ocean views and deserted beaches. The drive on the coast
is renowned to be one of the most spectacular in the world. Overnight
in Cape Town. Tour ends after breakfast the following morning. Transfer
to the airport.

Day 14: Knysna, Plettemberg Bay
The day is fully dedicated to the Ocean Safari. We will approach whales
within 50 meters in the season, dolphins, sharks and other marine
species. After a special Italian lunch in one of the most renowned
restaurant of the coast, we a visit to the famous Heads, one of the
highlights of any visit to South Africa's Garden Route, the two
great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon which
connects the estuary with the sea. Knysna Lagoon is an estuary which
is fed by the Knysna and Salt rivers. It plays a vital role in
sustaining the rich bird and aquatic life of the lagoon. We cruise
on the Paddle Cruiser, the first paddle-powered cruiser built
in South Africa. Sunset and dinner on the boat. Overnight in Knysna.
Day 15: Oudtshoorn, Ostrich Farms and Cango Caves
Today we leave the coast and we explore the world famous Cango
Caves near Oudtshoorn and whilst in the vicinity, we visit the ostrich
farms and experience the thrill of a ride on the back of an ostrich.
There are opportunities for horse riding and hikes where the display
of flora, being so much more noticeable, can be greatly admired. We
continue our drive heading for our accommodation, a beautiful chalet
close by Calitzdorp and the Warm Waters where we can enjoy a natural
bath at the moon light.
Day 16: Unique wine tour and horse back tasting tour in Stellenbosh
After the first democratic election in 1994 more and more wine farmers
are trying to include farm workers by allocating part of the farmland
to them for a viticulture purposes. This initiative has contributed
tremendously to poverty alleviation and empowerment of the people.
This morning we meet the people, hear their stories and taste their
wines made of grapes from their own vineyards. This tour is a must
to experience the “New South Africa” in a real way. Early
afternoon we find our way to the heart of the wine lands on a horse
drawn carriage. The journey meanders through vineyards to leading
wine estates with perfect views, where we can stop for a stroll and
a glass of wine before continuing the ride. Overnight in a local farm.
Day 17: Kaymandy Township :Culture & Social
Today is dedicated to a special experience: we visit Kaymandy a black
Township meaning Nice place. Witness and share everyday life experience
of the real people of the real South Africa and their Endeavors during
the difficult years of the apartheid to uplift themselves thought
the establishment of community centers and informal trading initiatives
like Spaza shops and Sheebeens. In cooperation with the Greater Stellenbosh
Development Trust we have the chance to live an amazing cultural and
social experience as never before. The Trust in consultation with
the community leaders is encouraging self-sufficiency and development
entrepreneurial skills with the residential. For one day we will be
part of the community sharing meals together, playing music, making
pottery, learning some word in a local language. Live a memory of
your visit by playing guitar, or teaching how cooking your favorite food, singing
a song or drawing. Overnight in one of the local houses, warmly attended
by a sweet mama!
Day 18: Cape Peninsula
An unforgettable journey to the mythical meeting place of the two
great oceans. Breathtaking scenic beauty contrasts with the harsh
rugged conditions of the most south-westerly edge of the African continent.
We visit Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, a dramatically
wild area of towering cliffs, stupendous ocean views and deserted
beaches. Weather and time permitting, there is an optional visit to
the Penguin colony at the Boulders and the Kirstenbosch Botanical
Gardens, one of the Seven Magnificent Botanical Gardens of the world.
On the way to Cape Town we drive along the spectacular Chapman's Peak
Drive. Experience the Mother City night life after an exotic
dinner in one of its delicious restaurants
Day 19: Cape Town
The day is dedicated to explore the Mother City. In the afternoon
we take the ferry to Robben Island, symbol of the anti-apartheid
struggle in South Africa, the prison where Nelson Mandela was
kept for 27 years because of his opposition to apartheid. Overnight
in Cape Town.
Day 20: Table Mountain and Waterfront
This morning we explore Table Mountain. There is a chance to take
the cable car on the way to the top. Many optional hiking paths are
available in the area. The rest of the day is free to enjoy your shopping
at the Waterfront. Overnight in Cape Town. Transfer to the airport
the following day after breakfast.
